Crawford County, Ks -
Senator Richard Hilderbrand says he wants the Kansas legislature to provide Crawford County the same economic development tools surrounding counties have.
Hilderbrand is hoping a bill designating Crawford County as a Rural Opportunity Zone is able to cross the finish line in the upcoming legislative session.
Hilderbrand says every other county in Southeast Kansas has the designation.
He says being designated as a Rural Opportunity Zone could even benefit Pittsburg State students.
"So if you graduate from Pittsburg State, businesses here in Crawford County can give them up to $15,000 over five years to pay off any student loans, student debt, so that would help keep students that are graduating from Pitt State University from moving out of our area and keep them here." says Senator Richard Hilderbrand, (R)- Baxter Springs
The bill would need to pass through both the house and senate before going to Governor Laura Kelly for final approval.
