Crawford county commissioners approve moving forward with applying for a half million dollar grant package.
The grants, applied for by the Crawford County Health Department, would provide funds for several programs, including chronic disease risk reduction and maternal and child health. Commissioners say without grants like these, it would be tough to fund these programs.
“Our budget is roughly $27, $28 million, so half a million, that’s a big chunk of change,” county commissioner Jeremy Johnson says. “Without raising the mill levy it’s hard to say that we’re going to be able to squeeze all of the other line items on there to be able to do that.”
The health department expects to learn whether or not they received the package of nine grants in the next few weeks. They say they are hopeful, because they have been successful with them in the past.
