Southwest Missouri’s newest hospital is under construction in Monett.
Crews have begun moving dirt at the site where the new Cox monett hospital will be built. The $42 million project is expected to be completed in about eighteen months. The new hospital is being built on highway 60, on the east side of Monett. Hospital administrators say they chose the site because of highway access and to have room for potential expansion in the future. Hospital board members say in an age where many rural hospitals are closing, they are hoping this sends a strong message to the community.
“Cox Monett is bucking the national trend. Hospitals across our country in rural areas are closing. That’s not happening here. We’ve had a first rate hospital for several decades here in Monett, Cox has recognized that and made a significant investment in the future of health care here in Monett,” says Cox Monett advisory board member Mike Garrett.
An official ground breaking ceremony will be held in May.
