Construction crews working to wrap up work before Maple Leaf

Construction crews are working to wrap up a parade route project in time for a big Carthage festival.

The area around 4th and Grant has seen street repair and new sidewalks. Work is still ongoing to finish paving a county parking lot on the southwest corner of the intersection. The Maple Leaf Festival will see more and more events in the next several days, with just a couple of weeks left until the big parade.

“Maple Leaf’s a big thing, coming up October 20th. And the contractors say to us they will be done by then,” says Tom Flanigan, Jasper County Commissioner.

The county purchased the property more than three years ago, after a fire destroyed a landmark building on the lot.
