Congress approves Ft. Scott National Historic Site Boundary Modification Act

News

Legislation geared towards preserving a piece of local civil war history is headed to President Trump’s desk.

Yesterday, Congress gave approval to the Ft. Scott National Historic Site Boundary Modification Act, sponsored by Congressman Steve Watkins. It will allow for the expansion of the historic fort.

If approved by President Trump, it would allow the US Parks Service to incorporate a local Union army structure into the site. Watkins says the bipartisan lands package, which includes his bill, helps to the community’s contribution toward preserving the Union during the Civil War.
