Commerce Volunteer FD to hold cornhole tournament and chili feed fundraiser

News

The Commerce Volunteer Fire Department is hoping to raise funds with help from the community with the inaugural cornhole tournament and chili feed.

The event involves people throwing bean bags into holes and is similar to horseshoes. The tournament will be held on March 9th at 10 am in the Commerce High School gym. First place winners earn a $300 dollar cash prize and additional money will be given out to second place winners as well. Department officials say fundraisers like this are essential for them, due to their department being limited financially.

“We give back to the community a lot we sponsor a lot we sponsor baseball teams, basketball teams, the cheerleaders we sponsor everybody in the community if there’s a household in need we take care of that,” says Janet Trease, Commerce Fire Department.

The fire department is still looking for entrees to compete on two man-teams as well as sponsors to help them hold the event. If you are interested, you can contact the department on their Facebook page.
