City of Joplin pays off debt for renovating Joe Becker

The city of Joplin is looking to avoid paying $600,000 of interest on Joe Becker Stadium.

Back in 2014, the city used $2 million in certificates of participation to renovate portions of Joe Becker Stadium.

There is still more than $1 million that needs to be paid on these certificates.

If the city doesn’t pay off the debt before September, leaders will have to pay an extra $600,000 on interest.

Council decided to move forward with paying off debt early using the General Fund reserves.
