Joplin city leaders will discuss the possibility of creating an arts district in the downtown area.

The proposal focuses on the area from “B” street to 12th and Wall Street east to Pennsylvania. Supporters say the district would highlight a mix of boutiques, studios, art galleries and more. They add the move would create an opportunity to market those downtown blocks, hopefully spurring economic development and tourism. The city council will discuss the arts district at its meeting Monday night at city hall.
