Families and fire fighters from around the Joplin area came to Memorial Hall this evening.
Dozens of parents and their kids came out to celebrate the holiday season with not only Joplin’s firefighters, but many others around the region.
“So you’ve got the Joplin professional fire fighters, the local union for Joplin. You’ve got the Duenweg Fire Department. That’s a big sponsor. The Carl Junction, Webb City, Carterville, Reddings Mill. All the area fire departments come together and help put this party together,” says Cpt. Adam Grimes, Joplin Fire Department.
Those that were invited to come out tonight were able to meet Santa, grab a few gifts, and enjoy a meal provided by local restaurants. One resident and her family were ecstatic to be one of the many families invited to this year’s festivities.
“I was excited so the kids could come. I was super excited,” says Sabrina Bass.
This is Sabrina Bass’ first Joplin area firefighters Christmas for Kids party. She applied after going through a rough patch this year, which had a big impact on the holidays.
“A lot. It’s stressful. Especially when you have three kids so it makes it harder to figure out what you’re going to do,” says Bass.
And it means so much to her and her family that the firefighters would let them come out to tonight’s event.
“I am very thankful. They’re amazing. They risk their lives to make other people safe. So it’s a great opportunity to come out here to get to do this with them and see them all together,” says Bass.
Giving kids and families a chance to celebrate the season with them is why Captain Grimes enjoys doing this every year.
“Every year is just amazing. There’s not been one year that’s just been better than the other. I just love everyone of them,” says Cpt. Adam Grimes.
