Carthage schools to add more school resource officers

Increasing campus safety will be an the focus for one Southwest Missouri school district.

Carthage schools plan to add two more school resources officers during the upcoming school year. Right now, they have one SRO and a part-time dare officer. School leaders say it’s not due to growing security concerns but instead a proactive step to keep kids safe.

“Regardless of the situation around our society or even in Carthage, we just want extra support for our kids and our staff to make them feel as safe as possible,” says Mark Baker, Carthage Schools Superintendent.

The new program would station one officer at each of the high school, junior high and intermediate school.
