The Carthage Fire Department united with community members in a groundbreaking ceremony.

The department is building a new fire station on the south side of the city. This is in addition to the current facility which will still cover the north side of Carthage. The new facility will be 9,0000 square feet and a three bay station.

Carthage fire chief Roger Williams says he is excited for his team to be able to utilize this new facility. He adds it is humbling for the community to come out and support the progress they have made.

“You know I’ve been with the fire department nearly 40 years and this has been talked about and this has been talked about a good 30 years of it actually and to be apart of it and kind of be the one who’s pushing it through it’s just a great feeling and it’s progress,” says Williams.

Williams says the department is expecting construction to be complete this fall.
