Demolition will start Monday on the Missouri Highway 96 bridge and the bridge near Kellog Lake Park. The goal is to have both bridges back open to traffic by September 15th. But, if crews finish ahead of schedule, MoDOT will receive a $420,000 incentive.

Tuesday night, MoDOT held a meeting updating residents on detours and timelines for the project. The Highway 96 bridge is in such bad condition, it’s been closed to traffic since September and project managers say that’s a problem they see too often around the state.

“We have over 10,000 bridges in Missouri and the 800 that are in poor condition. We try to replace those but unfortunately, about 100 come on every year on the poor condition list, so it’s important that we get those bridges replaced,” explained MoDOT Project Manager Sean Matlock.

Replacing both bridges will have a combined price tag of $6.2 million. The new bridges will be wider with extra space for bigger trucks, as well as biking and pedestrian trails.
