Carthage Convention and Visitor’s Bureau to install new signs

It will be easier to find attractions in the Carthage community soon.

A total of 85 signs highlighting attractions in the Maple Leaf city will be installed soon, with the majority of them being put up before the end of the year. Carthage Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Executive Director Wendi Douglas says the work will be done by CDL Electric in Pittsburg.

She says wayfinding signs like these will be easily visible once they’re put up and will be the same color blue as used by the school district. The signs are being paid for through a combination of money from the city’s lodging tax as well as from the city’s general fund.

“They’re also inspiration, so people, not only travelers but people who live locally can say, “Oh, I didn’t realize Art Central was on was on 13th street” or “Oh, there’s a Civil War museum downtown” so hopefully it will inspire people to visit more of our local attractions,” says Wendi Douglas, Ex. Dir, Carthage Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.

Douglas says the signs will be ideal for visitors coming into town traveling along Route 66.
