A local organization asks voters to consider a proposition to fund a Carl Junction library.
“Carl Junction’s Next Chapter” is raising awareness for Proposition One. It is a library tax that would add an average increase of nineteen dollars per year for a house worth $100 thousand dollars. Currently, Carl Junction residents have to pay a fee if they want to use Joplin’s Public Library – a cost of $50 dollars a year. And supporters say a library in Carl Junction is important because it provides more than just books.
“You have community outreach programs. You have children’s programs. We have a lot of awesome programs with the city that do great for outreach of older children and even young adults, but not a whole lot available for young kids,” says Crystal Winkfield, Carl Junction’s Next Chapter VP.
Carl Junction residents will have the opportunity to vote on Proposition One on April 2nd.
