A car smashes into the inside of a Carl Junction church late last night.
An SUV traveling west on Fir Road from JJ-Highway failed to negotiate a turn, going off the road and crashing into Fir Road Christian Church. Our Joplin News First reporter was on scene and says the car went through a wall near the front doors, and into the church office.
The occupants were trapped inside the car for a few minutes until they were finally able to get out. No one in the car was injured. Even though no was at the church at the time, one pastor did see the whole thing happen.
“Yeah I live right across the street and saw a commotion here and came over and checked it out. And was surprised to see that a car was in the church. And quickly saw that there were people still in the car. they were climbing out and we checked on them. And thankfully they were okay. And we are just so glad that nobody was hurt in this. And we told them ‘hey this is just stuff and that things that can be replaced. But lives can’t.’ So we are just happy that everybody is okay,” says Dan Toney, Senior Minister, Fir Road Christian Church.
Church members are now coming together to help repair the wall.
