‘Bonnie and Clyde’ accomplice gets 19 years added to sentence

A federal judge has sentenced a Joplin woman after a four-state crime spree that ended when her boyfriend was killed in a shoot-out with police.

U.S. District Judge Madeline Hughes Haikala sentenced Brittany Nicole Harper, 32, on May 15th to 19 years in prison in Alabama. Harper pleaded guilty to transporting a stolen vehicle across state lines, conspiracy, and brandishing a gun.

The 10 day, four-state crime spree started in Webb City on January 26th, 2016. Prosecutors say Harper and Blake Fitzgerald stole cars, burglarized a home, and kidnapped two people during carjackings.

It ended on February 5th, 2016 after a face-off with police in Milton, Florida when her boyfriend, Blake Fitzgerald, was shot and killed. She was then arrested.

In October 2017, Harper was sentenced in Florida to 20 years after pleading no contest to robbery, home invasion and other charges. She was then transferred to face charges in other states.
