Bill proposed in Missouri to change the number of elected officials in the House and Senate

Missouri lawmakers consider a measure that would change the number of people elected to the State House and Senate

House Joint Resolution 41, sponsored by Representative Travis Fitzwater would create a 3:1 ratio of House districts to Senate districts.
That would reduce the size of the Missouri House of Representatives from 163 members to 120, but increase the size of the Senate from 34 seats to 40 seats.

Because it would require a constitutional change to enact the legislation, it would appear on a future general election ballot.
The bill passed out of the House General Laws Committee Thursday on an 11-1 vote, and has been sent to the House Legislative Oversight Committee for further work.
