Bill filed in OK that could eliminate straight party voting

News

A bill has recently been filed by an Oklahoma lawmaker that could eliminate straight party voting.

Straight party voting allows individuals to select candidates only marking one ballot mark. Oklahoma is one of eleven states that still allows this.

Prior to the beginning of the 2019 legislative session, Senator J.J. Dossett filed Senate Bill 51. He believes the removal of straight party voting is needed because it is not relevant in today’s society. Dossett believes individuals are now capable of educating themselves about what they are voting on.
