The Missouri Department of Conservation is warning people to be bear aware.
Conservationists say black bears are making a comeback in the southern part of the state this fall. If you see one, don’t go near it. Instead, put your hands up and walk backward slowly. It’s also suggested that if you’re out in the woods, store food in tight containers and keep a clean campsite.
Kevin Badgley, MO Depart. of Conservation: “Right now they are trying to get that storage of fat for the winter. So they are out eating as much as possible. Right now, bears could be around large areas of trees that have acorns.”
If you see a bear, report it to the staff members at the Missouri Department of Conservation.
