The Better Business Bureau wants you to be smart when searching for a tax preparer this tax season.
The BBB suggests to ask about the experience your tax professional has. And when looking for your preparer, you should consider doing some research before hiring someone, like checking their background and reputation. And given the option, try to opt for direct deposit rather than receiving a check in the mail.
“Direct deposit is probably one of your best ones. Because you get it faster and I think it’s a little more secure than going through the mail,” says David Cheek, Tax Professional with Liberty Tax.
The IRS says even during the government shutdown, they will still be distributing income tax returns. They plan to start processing returns on January 28th.
