Basketball tournament fundraiser held for Joplin HS student with cancer

Students at Joplin High School raise money for a fellow classmate battling cancer by playing her favorite sport--basketball.

16 year old Asia Huffman was recently diagnosed with MPN, a blood cancer, and has already began chemotherapy in Kansas City. To help Asia and her family with medical expenses her best friend put on the Baller Madness 3v3 tournament, held earlier tonight. Twenty teams registered to support the cause with less than a week's notice to get it all together.

"There's definitely going to be I think some comfort for her knowing that there's so many people out there rooting her on. It'll encourage her spirits, encourage her to fight a little bit more. And she's already a fighter, so we're all praying for her,” says Jenna Plassman.

Tonight alone they raised more than six hundred dollars for Asia, who came home from Kansas City tonight after treatment. If you'd like to donate as well, call the high school's athletic office at 417-625-5242, extension 3052.
