Barton County commissioners take a step towards tearing down the old hospital

Barton County commissioners have hired a company to remove asbestos from the former Barton County Memorial Hospital building in Lamar. The building has been vacant for more than a decade. Removal of asbestos is expected to take about ten weeks. County leaders expect the demolition bid application process to be completed by June. They say money provided by Cox helped move the demolition process forward.

“That was just such a blessing that Cox Barton County Hospital did help and provide some seed money to help with the demolition and remediation of the former Barton County Memorial Hospital,” says Astra Ferris with the Barton County Chamber of Commerce.

At this time, the county hasn’t made any firm plans on what will become of the land after the building is demolished.
