Authorities release new information in Virginia Beach shooting


Authorities are starting to uncover new information after 12 people were killed during a mass shooting in Virginia Beach Friday afternoon.

Dewayne Craddock, the now confirmed gunman, had been an employee in the city for more than 15 years. 

So it came as a suprise when he opened fire in Virginia Beach’s Municipal Center building. 

Police quickly responded to the scene, and a gun battle ensued where the shooter was killed. 

Today the names of the lives taken by the gunman were released.

Mayor Bobby Dyer of Virginia Beach says, “We will not be defined by this horror.  We will go forward.”

Virginia Governor Ralph Northam says, “I would ask all of us that are watching this today to continue to lift up Virginia Beach, continue to lift up these victims and these families”

11 of the 12 people killed in the shooting were city employees.

Local authorities as well as federal have been called in to Virginia Beach to investigate the shooting.

The motive of the shooter is currently unknown.
