An annual event makes it easy for residents to help area food banks

Saturday, May 11th, is the Annual Stamp Out Hunger Day across the country, including here in the four states. Jeremy Carrier says it’s a great way to help the food insecure in several counties in southwest missouri.

“Just put food in a bag and put it out by your mailbox or on your porch by your mail receptacle. We do do that early. We do have people coming around, if your carrier gets there a little early, that’s cool, if they get there a little later, maybe somebody can pick it up early. I recommend putting it out early, that way you don’t forget to,” says Jeremy Carrier, Food Drive Coordinator.

This is the 27th year for the nationwide event. Carrier says last year’s haul was 35,000 pounds of non-perishable food in Southwest Missouri. The food will be dispersed to area food banks and shelters that serve meals.
