Police officers come out to Schifferdecker Park to meet and eat with those that they serve and protect.
The Joplin Police Department hosted Joplin’s 2018 National Night Out. Community members could come out and enjoy free food, visit with officers, and participate in multiple activities in the park including a free swim at the Schifferdecker Aquatic Center.
The purpose of this event is to deepen the relationship between officers and the public while providing a safe place for families to enjoy the evening. Last year, more than one thousand people attended the event and one officer says that despite all the work that goes into it, it’s worth it.
“It starts out as three months of chaos and planning and right now it’s coming together. Everybody looks like they’re having a good time. So it’s a big pay off for us. It looks great right now,” says Lacey Baxter.
Joplin is one of thousands of cities and towns across North America participating in National Night Out.
