Acquisition and merger of Empire District Electric Company complete

Liberty Utilities, a subsidiary of Algonquin Power and Utilities based in Canada, has completed the acquisition and merger of Empire District Electric Company. The $2.4 billion sale was announced in February and received approval from state regulators in Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Kansas.
Liberty will take over approximately 218,000 customers in the Four States.
The main difference customers will notice will be a refreshed Empire logo on the company’s website and on customer bills, company vehicles and employee uniforms. But, the local teams who service current customers will not change.
The changes will occur over the next few months.
