A man is arrested after a three-year-old boy is left in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

21-year-old Lenard Valdez of Joplin is being held for child abuse with a 15 thousand dollar bond plus 5 thousand dollars cash.

Kansas City police arrested him early Saturday from a hotel in Kansas City where he is currently in jail.

The Joplin Police Department was called to Freeman Health System around 2:45 Friday afternoon for a boy who’d arrived with serious injuries.

Officers then went to the home of the boy–1502 South Michigan apartment 11 in Joplin–it’s there that officers believe the incident happened.

Shortly after the boy arrived at Freeman Health System he was transported to Childrens Mercy in Kansas City.

The Joplin Police Department has now changed this to a death investigation.
