5K honoring fallen MSSU student held Sunday

Real world business skills were taught as an MSSU class hosted the annual “Run With The Pride 5K.”

The 5K is held each year to honor fallen MSSU student Lori Pflug. 

After graduating from the university, Pflug went on to pursue a career at Mercy Hospital in Joplin. 

MSSU and the hospital patner each year to put on this event.

MSSU’s kinesiology class spent the entire semester organizng the 5K, including finding sponors, bidders for shirts and medals, and timing out the course. 

Brandon O’Connell, MSSU student, says, “I definitely want to push the importance of what you’re doing and what you’re doing to your body and what you’re putting in your body.”

Gavin Currey, MSSU student, says, “The big thing we’re looking into is actually certifying the 5K course. So that everyone will run the same course every year and a lot of people like a certified course because their times will be official.”

Funds from the event will support a scholarship fund to help two students in the kinesiology program at MSSU.
