A 5 year old Joplin girl diagnosed with a severe brain infection beat all the odds and continues to surpass expectations.
“She has beaten all the odds,” says Chad & Loretta Harris.
And that she has. About a year ago, Caryn Harris was diagnosed with a severe brain infection. What started out as a headache, turned into something much worse.
“Every 30 minutes she would cry and wake up and complain her head hurt, her neck hurt, her back hurt, her legs hurt. So after about four times of that, a few hours of that, we took her to the hospital,” says Chad & Loretta Harris.
And after plenty of exams and nights spent at the hospital. Doctors said having emergency surgery was the only way the little girl would pull through.
“They did an emergency surgery. removed two thirds of her skull. She laid in a coma for about five days. She did wake up, and she had a big smile on her face,” says Chad & Loretta Harris.
Caryn is now on the road to recovery. Walking and talking, something doctors didn’t expect her to be able to do. And through it all her parents say their faith got her to where she is today.
“Don’t lose your faith, that’s your bottom line. Don’t lose your faith. Never give up. When life starts pushing at ya, you just gotta push back a little bit harder,” says Chad & Loretta.
