An owner of a Joplin nursery holds a chili cookoff in remembrance of her furry friends.
Ozark Nursery hosted it’s 4th Annual Chili Cookoff today to honor the owner’s three cats who once roamed the garden grounds.
Customers voted on chili made by nursery employees and brought cat items like litter, toys, and food to be donated to the Joplin Humane Society.
The owner encourages a little friendly competition at this event each year to help ease the financial burden at the humane society.
“Of course we all love our fur babies and it’s something we can do to help them. They’re always in a great need down there and so any little thing we can do to help out, I am happy to do and plus we like to eat chili.” says Gayl Navarro, Ozark Nursery Owner
Ozark Nursery donated over $100 to the Joplin Humane Society after the event.
Next year, Navarro hopes all Ozark Nursery employees will participate in the chili cookoff.
