Runners and walkers stride for miles on end to support Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Wyandotte Nation and Bearskin Healthcare and Wellness Center held its 3rd Annual Scarecrow Run this morning.
Three hundred runners and walkers had the choice of participating in a 5K or a one mile run.
This event is free, not only to encourage Four State residents to participate, but also to support victims of domestic violence by running in their honor.
Organizers say though domestic violence is a reality in almost every community, there is help to be found.
“I’m a domestic violence victim myself. And got into this field for that specific reason. I want to be able to help others. You know, when I got out I didn’t know this was available. I didn’t know I had someone to help me. So if we can let people know they are not alone then we have done good.” says Lisa Arnold, Advocate
The number of participants continues to grow each year, and organizers hope to double the number of runners next year.
