Families reunite with the Neonatal physicians and nurses that kept their newborns alive from the very moment they were born.
Children’s Miracle Network held a reunion for Freeman Health System’s NICU employee’s and the children they’ve cared for in years past.
It’s a chance for parents and kids to renew close relationships with staff, and celebrate medical milestones the young patients have reached.
Unlike other doctor-patient relationships, nicu staff often become very close with parents while they provide specialized care for premature babies in the first few weeks of their lives.
“They’re there taking care of them 24 hours a day, sometimes for months after they’re born. And it’s just so rewarding because it’s almost like their kids going off to college or leaving but they get to come back and have this amazing reunion,” says Heather Lesmeister with the Children’s Miracle Network.
This is the 25th Annual NICU Reunion, with nearly 300 families attending this year’s celebration.
