A local church is celebrating it’s 150th anniversary this weekend.
Swars Prairie Baptist Church just outside of Seneca was founded in 1868 with only 17 charter members at the time. The church hosted a concert with free food and live music from “The Lesters” and the “Spring City Quartet” Today festivities continue with a special afternoon service. Former pastors recollected their experiences at the church and honored a current member of the congregation who’s been there for 83 years. While Prairie Baptist’s current pastor hasn’t been preaching there for a long time, he is honored to be a part of the church’s history.
Jarel Burnside, the current pastor, says “You know i feel very blessed to be here. A hundred and fifty years of a church being a lighthouse for a community and being in existence that long in the country out here in the country. It’s just a great feeling.”
After today’s service members of the church were able to attend a reception and meet with former members.
