CHEROKEE COUNTY, Kan (Rural Galena) — Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies, Baxter Springs Police Dept, Kansas Highway Patrol, Kansas Dept of Wildlife and Parks along with first responders and Cherokee Co. EMS were dispatched to 7799 SE Black Jack rural Galena Sunday afternoon.

Several gunshots were heard inside a home. Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves tells us at the scene, they responded to a call of shots fired at 3:20 PM.

As they arrived one person had climbed out a window, and three others still inside. They entered the residence and were able to remove an uninjured elderly woman. Then two adult males were discovered deceased.

Two deceased adult males are father and son. It’s believed the son, Danny Allen Pennock, 50, shot and killed his father Danny Pennock, 77. And then turned a gun on himself..

About 6:30 PM Sunday the following information was released.

This is an isolated shooting he tells us. They will be on the scene for an unknown amount of time investigating.

Authorities are asking residents to avoid the area.
