NEWTON COUNTY, Mo — About 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening Newton County Central Dispatch were notified to reports of a serious crash on MO-43 just north of Kpok Drive closing down the highway in both directions.
Seneca Fire Protection District, Newton County Ambulance, and Newton County Deputies. Missouri State Highway Patrol were notified.

Trooper S. R. Glass of MSHP Troop D tells us on scene it was a two vehicle head on crash, one person had died on scene.
Jessica Oliver, 29, of Seneca, was driving a 2001 Chevy Cavalier northbound on MO-43. She suffered serious injuries and was transported to Mercy Joplin.
Ilyas Qawishabazz, 55, of Joplin, was traveling southbound on MO-43 and driving a 2017 Lincoln MKX. He suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced at the scene at 7:39 p.m. by Newton County Deputy Coroner Jerry Deems.
There was also a passenger in the Oliver vehicle who suffered serious injuries. Matthew Beamer, 39, of Joplin. Transported to Mercy Joplin.

All involved in the crash were wearing their seat belts.
Doug’s Towing of Seneca removed the vehicles and debris from the scene.
MoDOT Emergency Response assisted with traffic control.
