Gary Bandy

Gary began his broadcasting career while still in high school in his home town of Parsons, Kansas. In 1981, he moved to Joplin to continue his work in radio at Z103 where he co-hosted the successful Amos & Bandy morning show with Mike Amos. Just between you and the internet, Mike Amos was actually Joplin Globe reporter Mike Pound. Let’s not let that get around, okay?

In 1992 Gary transitioned to television, co-hosting KODE’s morning show with Joplin TV legend Vicki Kennedy. After over three years in that position, he moved to co-hosting duties on KSN’s morning show.

Years of weather reporting on both radio and television instilled such a deeo appreciation for meteorology, Gary chose to return to school for secondary learning in the field. Three years later, he become a Certified Meteorologist through Mississippi State University’s Meteorological Program.

In 2002, Gary was moved to KSN’s 5, 6 and 10 o’clock news as Chief Meteorologist. He held that position during numerous high profile severe weather events in Southwest Missouri, Southeast Kansas and Northeast Oklahoma (including the deadly 2011 Joplin tornado). Gary also co-hosted various KSN lifestyle shows until his early retirement in 2014.

After a few years of semi-obscurity, Gary returned to KSN in August of 2021 to co-host their lifestyle program Living Well. Oddly enough, at almost the exact same time that Gary semi-went back to work, his wife Doris semi-retired. Weird, huh?
