SENECA, MO-- The Seneca library branch will be keeping their doors open... at least until the end of the year. Last September, the Newton County Library Board said they would close the library on June 30th due to a lack of financial resources.
Because of a petition, the library will remain open until December of this year. The Seneca library foundation stepped in to help. Organizers are asking for donations from businesses and the community to help keep the library going.
It has two employees and is estimated to cost 75 thousand dollars a year to operate. Josh Dodson, the Seneca Chamber of Commerce President says he's thankful for those who have already helped.
"We have to look at the future. This is very vital to the community and community members are already stepping up and we're receiving donations right now, right and left so that is fantastic."
