On day two of the NCAA DII Central Regional, Missouri Southern led Central Missouri 1-0 heading to the 8th inning, before three errors turned into five runs and doomed their shot at a win. The Lions ultimately lost 7-3, ending their season with an 0-2 mark in regional play in Mankato, MN.
MSSU and top seed Mankato State went scoreless for 27 half innings before the host Mavericks pushed across a run on a safety squeeze in the bottom of the 14th to win. Lions starting pitcher Brett Abell pitched 11 shutout innings, but the offense could never get on the board.
MoSo will now play the two seed, MIAA foe Central Missouri, Friday at noon in an elimination game.
Tied with top seed Missouri Western 3-3 in the 9th inning of the deciding game of the MIAA championship Saturday, MSSU senior catcher Sam Ryan sent one over the right field wall, delivering the Lions their first tournament title in 21 years. The pitch came on a full count, with two outs, and two on, a moment Ryan declared "is what every kid dreams about."

Pitt staves off elimination against UCO
The Lions won two games at home Sunday against Northeastern State, and the Gorillas won one on the road to upset Central Missouri in the first round of the MIAA tournament. The teams will now play each other in Kansas City Thursday afternoon, in the first game of a double elimination style second round.
Also, both Pitt State and Missouri Southern found success in the MIAA Track & Field Championships, and Natalie Bird finishes her first round in the NCAA Central Super Regional.
Plus Pitt State splits their doubleheader with Central Missouri.
Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State finished the regular season with splits at home, catapulting both squads to the MIAA conference tournament. The Lions will host a home series beginning Thursday, while the Gorillas will go to Warrensburg to play Central Missouri.
In softball, Pitt won two while MoSo took a split. Those teams will play one final doubleheader to wrap the regular season, with the Gorillas battling for a playoff spot.
Defensive lineman picked 94th overall by the Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens.
The Gorilla baseball team won the first but lost the second against Emporia State, while the softball team did the same against Missouri Southern. In game two the Lions scored 11 runs to win in extra innings.

Missouri Southern's first team offense and defense held off the reserves 6-0 in the annual Green-Gold spring game at Fred G. Hughes Stadium. Both sophomore quarterbacks Jay McDowell and Ricky Nichols showed promise running the ball, even in a game where they could not be tackled. In fact, coach Daryl Daye blew a 4th down play dead as Nichols appeared to cross the goal line in the 4th quarter.
Missouri Southern's just four practices in to spring ball, but they're already throwing the ball more than they did in 2012. Head coach Daryl Daye says the nucleus of the offense will still be the triple option, but with sophomore-to-be Jay McDowell at QB they plan to be more balanced with the pass than the more-than-5-rushes-to-1-pass ratio of last season.
