The Lions won two games at home Sunday against Northeastern State, and the Gorillas won one on the road to upset Central Missouri in the first round of the MIAA tournament. The teams will now play each other in Kansas City Thursday afternoon, in the first game of a double elimination style second round.
Also, both Pitt State and Missouri Southern found success in the MIAA Track & Field Championships, and Natalie Bird finishes her first round in the NCAA Central Super Regional.
The Pitt State men and women will play hosts as 7 seeds at John Lance Arena on Monday and Tuesday night, respectively, while the Missouri Southern men will be on the road at Emporia State as the 9 seed and the Lion women will be at home as the 8 seed. Each team must win to advance to Kansas City.

Several months after winning a preseason basketball tournament at Carthage high, the Carl Junction boys won again on the Tigers' floor, this time for a district title. Also winning a Class Four, District 12 title was the Webb City girls, who beat Carthage in a rematch of last year's title bout.
In Kansas, Colgan won a sub-state championship for the 17th straight year, beating top seed Riverton. In 4A title games, the Fort Scott girls won while the Fort Scott boys saw their year come to an end.
