Update: A Missouri Criminal is Executed Despite Local Church Group Gathering

JOPLIN, MO--- Convicted murderer Joseph Franklin was put to death by lethal injection, shortly after 6am Wednesday morning, at the Missouri State Prison in Bonne Terre. People came to McAuley Catholic High School Chapel, Tuesday night, to pray for Franklin.

Franklin, who was scheduled to be executed at midnight, was granted a brief stay of execution before being put to death early Wednesday. Those who attended the vigil do not support the death penalty and were sending up prayers for an alternative outcome. This was one of seven vigils held for Franklin Tuesday by the group "Missourians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty."
