JOPLIN, MO.--- An area agency is nearing its goal, but still has a bit more money to raise before the end of the year. The United Way of Southwest Missouri and Southeast Kansas is at 61% of its goal. The group has raised nearly $800,000 and the goal this year is $1.3 million.
The agency says they are up 10% from where they were last year. The money will help fund 35 different agencies like the Red Cross, the Boys and Girls Club and the Community Clinic. Organizers say they have confidence in the community that they will step up and help them reach their goal.
"It's going to take all of us coming together to meet this goal, it's so important. I think we're all aware of the difficulties with poverty and property is on the rise," said Bev Crespinio-Graham, United Way Executive Director.
