Thomas White Released on Probation

Tuesday the courts suspended the remainder of White's sentence, finding he had successfully completed his treatment and education.
JOPLIN, MO.--- Seven years after firing a shot inside a local school, a former Joplin student is a free man. A Jasper County judge granted probation to Thomas White, 20, yesterday.  He had been serving time at a secure treatment facility for assault and armed criminal action after taking a rifle to Joplin's Memorial Middle School in 2006. While no one was injured, White attempted to fire the weapon at Principal Steve Gilbreth, who now says he has forgiven White and supports the release.

"He's a boy - now he's a man and he deserves a chance to do the best that he can, and I think that he will," said Steve Gilbreth, Joplin Principal

Gilbreth says White has completed his G.E.D and has started taking college courses. He's currently living with family in Northern Missouri.
