The Alpha Air Center Sees Increasing Air Traffic

JOPLIN - The Alpha Air Center opened in March as the second fixed base operator at the Joplin Regional Airport. It offers fuel and maintains services to private and commercial flights.

Jeff Asbell is the owner of Alpha Air Center. He says he's seen an increase in the amount of traffic taking to the skies.

"From the first month we opened it's doubled to the next month," Asbell says. "We have about 70% increase the next month."

Prior to this addition, Mizzou Aviation had been the only fixed base operator for 50 years.

Airport Manager Steve Stockam says adding a second fix based operator has brought in more traffic.

"You probably shop at certain grocery shops," Stockman says. "Well having more than one option for people to shop at their Joplin Airport for fuel and aviation services is a great thing."

The Air Center is offering incentives for fliers in the hope of further increasing traffic this summer.
