JOPLIN, MO.--- Spiva Center for the Arts in Joplin is preparing for an auction called "Rebuilding With heART." It's hammers that have been recreated with art after they were used to rebuild Joplin homes. Farmers Insurance purchased the hammers and then donated them to the organization Rebuild Joplin.
Volunteers used the hammers while working on sites to help bring families home. The hammers were later given to Spiva, who dispersed them out into the community and for some local artists to decorate. Spiva workers say the "Rebuilding With heART" auction will allow families to have a piece of the rebuilding of their town.
"The sky's the limit. We just want people to have this little bit that they can have from rebuilding Joplin and being apart of it," says Karaleen McDonald, Education Coordinator, Spiva Center for the Arts.
Spiva will auction the hammers off on November 2nd from 7 until 9 p.m. Guests can purchase tickets before the event at Spiva or Rebuild Joplin for $20, tickets are $25 at the door.
