JOPLIN, MO.--- A few thousand hungry families are relying on your generosity this holiday season. Souls Harbor in Joplin serves meals to 30 to 40 people each day. Their pantry is often empty due to all the demand. In fact, most of the shelves were stocked last Friday, but are now empty. Last year, the group served 20,000 meals from their kitchen in Joplin. Georgia Jones is the executive director and she says there are so many stories that come in the door that break her heart.
"We had a lady come in the other day who was real desperate. She said 'I don't know what I'm going to do, my food stamps have been cut.' She sat at the front desk and started crying. It breaks your heart," said Georgia Jones, Soul's Harbor Executive Director.
If you would like to donate, KSN/KODE has setup boxes at the 7th Street Wal-Mart, 15th Street Wal-Mart and Food 4 Less on 32nd Street. Donations to those locations will benefit Souls Harbor. Residents can also donate at Ron's Supermarket in Pittsburg. Donations to Ron's will benefit the Wesley House.
