JOPLIN, MO -- Black Friday meant big business for some of the larger corporations, but today is all about keeping it local. Owners of boutiques and shops throughout the U.S. had their own special day: Small Business Saturday.

The Joplin boutique Blue Moon Market was full of customers looking for a good deal. Managers say Small Business Saturday is important, because it raises awareness about supporting local shops.

"For our town and our economy, it's what makes us go around. So if people don't come out and support us, then we won't be here. And I think that people really enjoy shopping local and having those small town unique boutiques," said Branden Clark, Blue Moon Market Manager.

Many of the smaller businesses offered major discounts, along with coupons that can be redeemed any time between now and Christmas.
