JOPLIN, MO.--- Christmas is less than 62 days away and the Salvation Army is needing your help to put toys under the trees for every child. Starting next week, the Salvation Army in Joplin is signing people up for their Christmas assistance program. Last year, the group helped more than 800 families with toys. This year, they expect to help more than 1,000 families. The group relies on donations from the community and their Angel Tree Program to make the event possible. Along with toys, they also give food to the families.
"Our food basket can provide a meal for all day Christmas, all three meals are taken care of Christmas day, usually we'll have leftovers. We want to make sure their holidays are taken care of, toy wise and gift wise but also food wise," said Jamie Curry, Salvation Army.
Starting on October 28th, the group will be open on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. And on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. The sign up process ends on November 8th. The Salvation Army is located at 320 east 8th Street in Joplin.
