Ryan Ferguson Conviction Overturned in Felony Murder Case

Ferguson was sentenced to prison in 2004 for allegedly killing Kent Heitholt in Columbia, Missouri.
COLUMBIA, MO--- The Missouri Court of Appeals overturns a conviction in a 2001 felony murder case. Ryan Ferguson was ordered discharged from custody after his attorneys argued newly discovered evidence showed he was innocent.

Ferguson was sentenced to prison in 2004 for allegedly killing Kent Heitholt in Columbia, Missouri. Ferguson,19 at the time, was named as a suspect after his friend Chuck Erickson told police they had committed the crime together. Four years after the confession, Erickson admitted to authorities he had lied at Ferguson's trial and the two didn't commit the crime.

State attorneys can retry Ferguson if they file within 15 days.
