Roller Derby

Two roller derby teams show off their skills for a good cause tonight.
JOPLIN, MO--- The Mo-Kan Roller Girlz All Starz played at home against the Tulsa Derby Beta Corps tonight at Roller City.

Pre-sale tickets sold out in multiple locations. The roller rink was filled with friends and fans for the derby teams, leaving standing room only.

Portions of the proceeds were donated to the Joplin Humane Society. These include part of ticket sales and raffles and the event even hosted a donation drive for the animals. A wish-list of needed items was posted on their website.

Kelly Cruzan of the Joplin Humane Society says any help is greatly appreciated.

"We always have stray animals: we always have dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets. There's always the need for food, littler, blankets, towels. Always a need."

Leashes, collars, treats, food and blankets were some of the many things donated tonight at the roller derby event.

Mo-Kan All Starz next game is in Poteau, Oklahoma on February 1.
