Pittsburg Community Dinner

St. Johns Lutheran Church host its 31st Thanksgiving Day Dinner.

Community volunteers say this year was the biggest yet. Last year, they served 780 meals and this year they prepared enough for more than 800 people. Volunteers say the buffet is not a needs based dinner, but they do deliver to home bound residents. Helpers say the Thanksgiving dinner idea was started by a group of elderly women who were spending Thanksgiving alone.

"They didn't have any place to go for Thanksgiving and their idea was that they wanted to have it open to the public because nobody should be alone on Thanksgiving if they didn't want to be," says Planning Committee Member Lance Davis.

The St. Johns Lutheran Church holds the largest Thanksgiving dinner in Pittsburg.
